Meta Closes the Ray-Ban Glasses Trick for Hiding the Recording Light

The white light on the front of a pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses is the only thing standing between you and a stranger filming you. That's the whole design. There's no shutter sound, no lens barrel, no obvious gesture. A small LED comes on, and you're supposed to notice it and act accordingly.

Meta has started rolling out an update that closes the newest way people were getting around it. Until now, the glasses only checked the LED at the moment you pressed record. Start a video with the light exposed, then slide a finger or a piece of tape over it, and the camera kept going. Alex Himel, Meta's VP of wearables, announced the fix on Threads: "The camera will now stop working if the light is covered during a recording."

Kodak’s New $35 Film Camera Wants to Be Your First One

You know that feeling when you want to try shooting film, poke around online for a camera, and immediately bounce off a wall of jargon about apertures and light meters and $300 price tags? The new Kodak EC35 is built for the exact moment right before you give up. It costs $35, it fits in a pocket, and it asks almost nothing of you.

Announced July 19, the EC35 is a reloadable 35mm camera aimed squarely at people who have never loaded a roll of film in their lives. The whole pitch is right there in the price: this is meant to be as easy, and nearly as cheap, as a disposable, except you keep the camera and just swap in a new roll when you are done.

Adobe’s Project Indigo Camera App Will Now Critique Your Photos Like an Art Teacher

You know that little pang you feel when you look back at a photo and something's just off? The lamp growing out of someone's head, the exposure that's a touch too flat, the great subject buried in a busy frame. You can feel that the shot isn't working, even when you can't say why. Adobe's Project Indigo now wants to say why for you.

The experimental iOS camera app is testing a new tab called AI Playground, and it does two things that are more interesting together than apart: it edits your photos with generative AI, and it critiques them like a patient art teacher looking over your shoulder. That second part is the one worth paying attention to.
